An imbalanced throat chakra causes us to stop listening to our inner voice, or the voices of others. We tend to put our opinions first regardless whether or not we are right. We tend to operate highly from the ego and often find ourselves needing to use anger or fear as a way to stamp our authority in order to win in a conversation. Why do we behave in such a way? Simply because we crave the respect that we get from positively influencing someone. It's important to note, that all acts of egoism often stems from love; or in this case, love that is distorted. As Jay Shetty once said, "The people who needs love the most often show it in the most unloving ways."

The thing that stops us from realising the full potential of this chakra is often the lies that we tell people or ourselves in order to garner attention. It is the deceit that we sometimes create just to get people on our side; or to have others sympathize for us. We all crave being seen, heard and understood, yet sometimes we go a little too far in order to experience the love that is missing in our life. So the golden question is, what do we do? How do we come out of this trap we find ourselves in?

The journey to opening up the throat chakra is simpler than most people think; and it has everything to do with integrity. Let's think about this for a second. Imagine yourself as a person going through a tough time financially. One day, walking down a street, you find a wallet filled with cash on the sidewalks. Now you are presented with 2 choices; to take the cash and dump the wallet, or to return it to its rightful owner. Imagine yourself resisting the temptation to take the money, and return everything back to its owner. Chances are, the owner is going to be grateful for your honesty; maybe even offering to buy you a meal or give you a small amount of cash. That's it. However that's beside the point!

The point is, what would you feel about yourself after overcoming such a huge temptation in a time of dire need? How would that make you feel? Exactly! Even without material wealth, you will be feeling like you're on top of the world. You will feel 'Proud' of yourself and your actions. More importantly, you will feel worthy of God's grace to flow into your life. That's the key! Integrity! By constantly doing little things that makes you proud of who you are, you open yourself up to the Grace that surrounds our lives. It's like watering your self-worth and making it grow a little more each day.

The more we speak the truth, the more we naturally tend to stay away from gossips or discrediting others. The more we practise honesty, the more confident we are about ourselves, because subconsciously, we know that we are living an honourable life. That makes us certain about our capabilities, and it eliminates the need to seek attention or to be heard. It makes you a better listener, which makes you a better communicator, which finally makes you an influential figure in your community.

A person with a powerful throat chakra is always seen as trustworthy, truthful and a role model. They have a great attitude and outlook on life; not because of the way they think about others, but because of the way the feel about themselves. They are proud without being arrogant. After all, arrogance and ego comes from the lack of self-confidence. There is a saying that anger is a mask that we wear to hide our vulnerability and true emotions. Arrogance and ego is a strategy we subconsciously use to shift our minds away from the real problem within ourselves...

So where do we begin? We start by having small wins everyday; rituals that we follow which creates the trust that has been missing with ourselves. By building the most important relationship of all, which is with ourselves, we put ourselves in a position to constantly work on our shortcomings which directly increases our perception of ourself. This in turn affects the way we treat others because our actions or perception of people are projections of who we truly are inside. As Louise Hays said, "It is impossible for someone who is filled with self-love, to hurt someone else." So remember, speak the truth, act honourably and always do what's 'RIGHT' in any given moment, and you will find a whole new dimension of life unlocked for you; bridging your heart and the divine as one...
